BCAA (Branched-Chain Amino Acids):

• Promotes muscle growth. One of the main goals of BCAA consumption is to promote muscle growth. Leucine activates muscle protein synthesis, i.e., the process of muscle protein production. In one study, people who consumed a BCAA drink after resistance training showed a 22% increase in protein synthesis compared to those who did not.
• Helps reduce muscle soreness. Often, after starting to exercise, one or two days after the first workout, significant pain is felt. This pain is called delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), which occurs approximately 21-24 hours after a workout and can last up to 72 hours. BCAA has been shown to reduce muscle damage, which can help reduce the duration and intensity of DOMS. • Helps reduce fatigue. BCAA can help not only reduce muscle pain but also post-workout fatigue. During training, your muscles use BCAA, so their level in the blood periodically decreases. When BCAA levels in the blood decrease, the level of the essential amino acid tryptophan increases in the brain. In the brain, tryptophan is converted into serotonin – a chemical substance in the brain that is thought to contribute to the onset of fatigue during physical exertion.
• Prevents muscle breakdown. BCAA can help prevent muscle wasting or breakdown. Muscle proteins are constantly broken down and rebuilt (synthesized). The balance between muscle protein breakdown and synthesis determines the amount of protein in the muscles. Muscle breakdown or wasting occurs when protein breakdown exceeds muscle protein synthesis (Breakdown occurs faster than production). Muscle wasting can be a sign of malnutrition and occurs with chronic infections, cancer, starvation, and is also a natural part of the aging process.
